Disruption of power supply likely in Kathmandu Valley for two days

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Works for upgrading and strengthening capacity of the Matatirtha-Syuchatar 132-kV transmission line are going on in a bid to ensure reliable, high-quality and sustainable power supply in the Kathmandu Valley.

The secretariat of the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, informed that electricity supply in the Kathmandu Valley could be affected on Saturday and Sunday because old wires and conductors were being replaced with new, high-capacity cables.

The upgrading of 132-kV transmission line is being operated under the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Project Management Directorate. It is currently replacing the old conductors for the Matatirtha-Syuchatar 132 kV double-circuit transmission line with new, high-capacity conductors. The transmission line needs shutting down from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday for the upgrading.

The new high-capacity conductors are the HTLS conductors, which carry higher power loads. Nearly 400-metres of conductor on one circuit of the double-circuit line needs replacing.

With the installation of new wires, the power system will be more reliable. The places to be covered by Matatirtha and Syuchatar substations will have power disruption.
