KATHMANDU: Regional Director of the World Health Organisation’s Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr Hanan Balkhi, has expressed belief that she would get Nepal’s support to her candidacy to the post of WHO Director General.
During her courtesy call on Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at the Foreign Ministry today, Dr Balkhi briefed about her candidacy, concept, and priorities and expected Nepal’s support in her bid to the top post at WHO.
She extended condolences to those affected from recent Bhotekoshi flood and tribute to those losing their lives in the disaster.
Dr Balkhi lauded the leadership of the government of Nepal during the difficult hours.
Similarly, Foreign Minister Khanal extended gratitude towards the solidarity expressed by Saudi Arabia for Nepal at such hour of grief and adversity. He mentioned that health related risks and the impacts of diseases resulting from climate change were increasing in the developing countries including Nepal.
Minister Khanal emphasized the need of international cooperation and effective health system to tackle climate induced health challenges.
Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Nepal, Fahd Mohammad A Mnikhr, among others were present on the occasion.
