KATHMANDU: An elderly man died and a woman was injured after being struck by a car in Urlabari Municipality-7, Morang, on Monday morning. The incident occurred at 7:40 a.m. when a car with the registration number Ko 1-01-002 Cha 2367, heading north, hit the pedestrians as they were crossing the road.
The victim, 89-year-old Krishna Bahadur Karki of Urlabari-7, sustained critical injuries. He was initially taken to Arniko Hospital, but due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Birat Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar. Doctors declared him dead during treatment at 9:00 a.m., police said.
The second pedestrian, 82-year-old Ramkumari Rai, also from Urlabari-7, was injured in the collision. She is currently receiving medical treatment at Arniko Hospital in Urlabari.
The Area Police Office in Urlabari has taken the driver, 41-year-old Yograj Karki of Urlabari-7, into custody. Police stated that an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
