Electricity worth Rs 5.92 billion exported to India from mid-September to mid-October

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) generated over Rs 5.92 billion in revenue from power exports to India between mid-September and mid-October.

Although the August 26 flood disaster had affected hydropower production, causing a brief disruption in power exports, supply increased significantly during the mid-September to mid-October period.

Executive Director at NEA, Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, informed that the transaction amount grew between mid-September and mid-October despite the earlier power supply disruptions.

Nearly two-thirds of the total cross-border supply was executed under bilateral agreements.

Meanwhile, the government resumed exporting 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh through the Indian transmission grid.

NEA reported supplying over 630 million units of electricity to India over the past month (mid-September to mid-October), fetching Rs 5.92 billion in revenue.

Similarly, electricity exports to Bangladesh resumed last Friday.

The power supply to Bangladesh had been disrupted due to the Bhotekoshi flood on August 26. That glacial disaster damaged the Trishuli and Chilime Hydropower plants, which were the facilities authorized to export power to Bangladesh.
