KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a convict who escaped from Nakkhu prison. Aryan Puri, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for rape, was apprehended by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in Mandandeupur, Kavre.
Puri was initially arrested in April 2025 for the rape of a minor in Lalitpur. The Lalitpur District Court found him guilty and handed down an 18-year prison sentence. After serving only five months of his sentence, he escaped from Nakkhu prison on Sept. 9, 2026. Officials noted that he managed to flee during the Gen-Z protests.
Puri had been on the run for approximately one year. Following intelligence that he had returned home about a week ago, the CIB conducted an operation and took him into custody on Tuesday. Authorities have initiated further legal proceedings against him.
