KATHMANDU: Police have arrested five individuals accused of swindling Rs 2.05 million by promising victims lucrative foreign employment opportunities. A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, apprehended the suspects from various locations across the valley.
The arrested individuals are Manisha Sunar, 31, and Thakur Bahadur Sunar, 34, from Arghakhanchi; Khop Bahadur Shahi, 49, from Palpa; Dipendra Khatri, 49, from Bhaktapur; and Sita Luitel, 48, from Syangja.
According to police, the suspects collected large sums of money under the guise of sending victims to countries including the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Portugal, and Romania before cutting off contact. Manisha and Thakur Bahadur allegedly swindled Rs 1.2 million from a victim with promises of sending them to the UK. Additionally, Khop Bahadur reportedly took Rs 200,000 for a job in Romania, Dipendra collected Rs 350,000 for a position in New Zealand, and Sita accepted Rs 300,000 by promising employment in Portugal.
The investigation team arrested Manisha and Thakur Bahadur on Saturday from Kathmandu-9. Khop Bahadur was taken into custody on Sunday from Tarkeshwor-16, while Dipendra and Sita were apprehended on Monday from Kathmandu-12. All five individuals have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action.
