KATHMANDU: A devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Aug. 26 caused significant damage to 13 water supply and sanitation projects in Rasuwa. According to the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, the flood resulted in damages estimated at more than Rs 252.5 million, directly affecting 1,623 residents who have been deprived of clean water access.
Department Director General Kamalraj Shrestha stated that the flood primarily impacted projects in Gosaikunda and Uttargaya rural municipalities. Many of the facilities were completely destroyed, while others suffered damage to their main pipelines, branch lines, and water taps.
In Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, projects in wards 1, 2, and 5 were completely destroyed, leaving over 900 people without water. Similarly, projects in wards 3 and 4 of Uttargaya Rural Municipality were also severely impacted. Infrastructure, including main and branch pipelines and water taps in areas such as Kaidaltar, Simle Muhan, and Bansthalshim, sustained heavy damage. Director General Shrestha confirmed that the department is initiating the necessary procedures for the reconstruction of the damaged facilities to restore water services to the affected areas.
