Floods and landslides affect 550 families in Myagdi

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall from September 24 to 27 has triggered floods and landslides in Myagdi, affecting approximately 550 families. According to the District Administration Office, 111 houses have been completely destroyed, 93 partially damaged, and 342 remain at high risk.

Assistant Chief District Officer Kul Prasad Acharya reported that Annapurna Rural Municipality is the most affected area, with 45 houses destroyed, 12 partially damaged, and 183 at risk. In Beni Municipality, 30 houses were destroyed, 14 partially damaged, and 45 are at risk. Mangala Rural Municipality recorded 23 houses destroyed, 32 partially damaged, and 35 at risk. Other affected areas include Raghuganga, Malika, and Dhaulagiri rural municipalities, where dozens of houses have sustained varying levels of damage.

The disasters have caused the collapse of 56 animal sheds, resulting in the death of 20 livestock. The death toll stands at seven, with five fatalities reported in Annapurna Rural Municipality and two in Malika Rural Municipality. Additionally, two people remain missing in Beni Municipality and Annapurna Rural Municipality.

Authorities have evacuated 115 landslide-affected residents from Giwang, Paudwar, Kindu, and Ghirwang in Annapurna to temporary shelters in Shikha and Ghar. Due to road blockages, relief supplies were delivered to the affected areas via helicopter. The administration is currently collecting detailed reports on damages to infrastructure, including roads, water supply systems, school buildings, and agricultural land. Officials stated that the total number of affected properties is expected to rise as the assessment continues.
