PHUNGLING: The Taplejung branch of Food Management and Trading Company Limited sold over 78 quintals of food items in a single day on Monday. The surge in sales follows the introduction of subsidized daily essentials during the festival season.
Branch chief Prakash Timsina stated that the office sold 78 quintals and 33 kilograms of food products on Monday. This included the local launch of pulse sales, with 572 kilograms sold at Rs 145 per kilogram, totaling Rs 82,940. Additionally, 2,086 kilograms of sugar were sold, generating Rs 229,460. The office began selling sugar on Oct. 1 and has distributed over 200 quintals in the last 10 days, priced at Rs 110 per kilogram.
The office also recorded rice sales worth Rs 455,100 on Monday, including 179 sacks of Jira Masino and 28 sacks of Sona Mansuli rice, both in 25-kilogram bags. In total, 298 customers purchased food items amounting to Rs 767,500 during the day.
The high demand has placed significant pressure on the branch’s four staff members. Because items like sugar and pulses must be weighed and packed in small retail quantities, customers have faced long wait times. Timsina noted that the current workforce is struggling to manage the volume of consumers and confirmed that the office has requested additional personnel to alleviate the burden on staff and improve service delivery for customers.
