KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has requested former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to inaugurate the upcoming party convention scheduled for Oct 2. Addressing a Central Working Committee meeting on Thursday, Thapa stated that having the former president inaugurate the event would be a matter of honor for the party.

During the meeting, Thapa also reminded attendees that, according to the party constitution, Deuba is no longer eligible to serve as president. The Nepali Congress is preparing to hold the convention at Khulamanch in Kathmandu on Oct 2. Thapa informed that the ward-level conventions are scheduled for Sept 19 and 20, followed by municipal, district, and provincial-level conventions.

Thapa noted that due to time constraints for the district and provincial sessions, the party will proceed after further consultations with leaders and cadres. He also emphasized the need to foster an environment of unity within the party alongside the convention process, urging all factions to stand together.
