KATHMANDU: The Gas Sellers Federation of Nepal has urged the government to take action against traders selling cooking gas at prices higher than the official rate. The disruption of the supply chain in the Kathmandu Valley follows road blockages at Krishna Bhir caused by flooding in the Bhotekoshi River.
The federation expressed concern that some traders are exploiting the current supply crisis to overcharge consumers. In a statement, the organization noted that selling gas and other essential commodities at unfair prices is a punishable offense and demanded that authorities penalize those involved in such practices.
The federation has further requested that distributors prioritize consumers currently facing shortages. It emphasized that ensuring the smooth supply of essential goods during difficult circumstances is a collective responsibility shared by the government, gas industry stakeholders, and retailers.
