KATHMANDU: Gen-Z leaders have responded positively to Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s address to the United Nations General Assembly, saying that Nepal’s national interests, climate justice, disaster concerns and contradictions within the global governance system were clearly raised on the international stage. They stressed that these issues must now be translated into concrete action.
Gen-Z leader Rabi Kiran Hamal thanked the prime minister for addressing the issues that should be raised by a Nepali prime minister at the UN General Assembly.
“Representing Nepal as the world’s youngest head of government is a joyful and encouraging moment for young people,” Hamal said.
He emphasized that the issues Nepal has raised on the global stage must now be translated into concrete diplomacy, institutional reform, economic development and stronger national capacity.
“Simply raising the issues and considering the matter finished is not enough. The real work has now begun. This is only the beginning, and we are waiting for results,” Hamal said.
Similarly, Gen-Z leader Miraj Dhungana said that when the prime minister travels abroad representing the country, he deserves their heartfelt best wishes. He emphasized that the substance of the address was more important than its style.
According to Dhungana, the prime minister presented the depth of Nepal’s disaster situation and the country’s current condition to the international community.
“We may criticize and question him at home, but let us keep it at home. When our prime minister travels abroad representing Nepal, he has my heartfelt best wishes,” Dhungana said.
Gen-Z leader Tanuja Pandey said Prime Minister Shah placed national interests and national dignity at the forefront of his address and strongly presented Nepal’s genuine voice and concerns on the international stage.
She emphasized that achieving meaningful climate justice would require continued international dialogue and said Nepal must also strengthen its domestic policies, plans and actions accordingly.
Meanwhile, Gen-Z leader Majid Ansari described Prime Minister Shah’s address as clear, composed and balanced.
According to Ansari, the prime minister subtly and respectfully highlighted contradictions within the global governance system. He particularly noted that Shah effectively exposed the double standards in claims of global security that overlook climate security.
“Without addressing climate security, claims of global security reveal a contradiction that you exposed in a thoughtful and graceful manner. Excellent work, Honourable Prime Minister,” Ansari said.
Overall, the Gen-Z leaders have welcomed the prime minister’s international address while emphasizing that the issues raised at the UN must now be translated into diplomatic initiatives, national policies, institutional reforms and tangible results.
According to them, while presenting Nepal’s voice on the international stage is important, the true assessment of the address will ultimately depend on the actions taken by the government and the results achieved afterward.
