KATHMANDU: Member of Parliament Barshaman Pun has accused the current government of failing to address public grievances, disaster management, and governance. Addressing a meeting of the House of Representatives, Pun stated that the government’s response during recent disasters was ineffective and criticized the administration for suppressing youth protests.

Pun noted that relief efforts have yet to reach remote areas in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, and criticized the delay in searching for those missing in floods and landslides, as well as the slow treatment of the injured. He claimed that the government failed to coordinate with opposition parties and local levels during the crisis.

Regarding the protests held on Sept. 9 and 10, Pun questioned who ordered the firing on demonstrators, which resulted in 19 deaths. He demanded an impartial investigation into the arson and vandalism that occurred on Sept. 10. He urged the government to make public and implement the reports submitted by the inquiry commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki and the National Human Rights Commission.

Pun further alleged that the government has failed to control inflation and black marketing, claiming that the stock market has also lost confidence in the current administration. He argued that the intimidatory tone adopted by ministers has damaged the morale of the private sector. Criticizing the government for imposing additional taxes on electricity, education, and health, he cited an incident in Saptari where a woman in labor was denied admission to a government hospital and forced to give birth on the street. He questioned the Prime Minister’s silence on such issues, asserting that the government has failed to protect the interests of the public.
