KATHMANDU: The government has nominated ambassadors for 13 countries, including India and China. A cabinet meeting held on Friday decided to recommend individuals with expertise in various fields for the diplomatic roles.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal stated that the nominees are individuals who have demonstrated leadership in their respective areas.
The list of proposed ambassadors includes Dr. Nischal Nath Pandey for India and Dr. Kalyan Raj Sharma for China. Former Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher J.B. Rana has been nominated for the United Kingdom. Other nominees include Jigyan Kumar Thapa for Japan, Suresh Kumar Karna for Israel, and Prapti Sherchan for Spain.
Furthermore, Sharu Joshi has been proposed for Germany, Dr. Padmakshi Rana for Oman, Chudamani Kharel for Malaysia, and Prof. Dr. Sangam Shrestha for South Korea. The list also includes Dr. Manchal Jha for Sri Lanka and Giri Bahadur Sunar for Saudi Arabia.
Following the cabinet’s decision, the names of the proposed ambassadors will be sent to the parliamentary hearing committee for review.
Once the parliamentary hearing process is completed, the government will seek formal approval (agrément) from the respective host countries. The President will then formally appoint the ambassadors to their designated missions.
