KATHMANDU: The government has adjusted the fare rates for electric public vehicles operating on inter-provincial routes. The Department of Transport Management released the new rates for short, medium, and long-distance travel on Thursday.
The department has revised the per-kilometer fare for passenger and cargo vehicles operating on Terai and hill routes. For long-distance travel in the Terai region exceeding 250 km, the fare is set at Rs 2.93 per kilometer per person, while routes between 25 km and 250 km are fixed at Rs 3 per kilometer.
Additionally, the fare for the Kathmandu-Pokhara and Pokhara-Narayanghat sections has been set at Rs 3.24 per kilometer.Vehicles certified with deluxe facilities may charge an additional 20 percent over the standard fare, while super deluxe vehicles may add another 20 percent on top of the deluxe rate. The department has mandated that students, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens must be provided with discounts upon presentation of valid identification cards.
New safety regulations require long-distance night buses to employ two drivers. Drivers and conductors are also required to wear uniforms or identification badges. The department warned that strict action will be taken against operators charging more than the prescribed rates. Passengers can report overcharging to the Hello Sarkar toll-free number 1111 or the traffic police at 103.
Cargo transport rates have also been adjusted. Based on a 10-ton capacity, the rate is set at Rs 7.72 per ton per kilometer in the Terai and Rs 14.77 per ton per kilometer in the hills. Consequently, the truck fare for the Birgunj-Kathmandu route is set at Rs 31,446, while the Bhairahawa-Kathmandu route is fixed at Rs 32,141.
