Government recommends issuance of three ordinances

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The government has recommended that the president issue three separate ordinances. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, according to government spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel.

The cabinet has proposed the issuance of ordinances to amend existing laws related to land, forests, and disaster management. Minister Pokharel stated that the disaster management ordinance was specifically recommended in response to the floods that occurred in the Bhotekoshi river on Aug. 10.

Addressing the changes introduced through the disaster management ordinance, Pokharel noted that the legal timeframe regarding missing persons has been revised. ‘Previously, there was a provision to declare a person dead after they had been missing for 12 years. This period has been shortened through the ordinance,’ he said.
