A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide monthly housing rent to families affected by the Bhote Koshi floods until their permanent homes are constructed. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held last Thursday to assist with the living expenses of the displaced families.

Minister for Communications Dr. Bikram Timilsina stated that families with up to four members will receive Rs 15,000 per month. For families with more than four members, an additional Rs 2,000 will be provided for each extra person. Minister Timilsina announced the decision on social media on Sunday, emphasizing that the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected citizens remain a top priority for the government.

The government has also provided an alternative option for families who do not wish to accept the cash rent subsidy. For such families, the government will arrange for temporary housing until their permanent homes are rebuilt. Minister Timilsina added that the necessary forms for data collection have already been sent to the respective local levels to facilitate the distribution process.
