KATHMANDU: Heavy rainfall is occurring in Sudurpaschim province due to an active western low-pressure system, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported. Over the past 24 hours, Dharampani in Darchula recorded 61 millimetres of rain, while Malepatan in Pokhara recorded 48.2 millimetres.
Meteorologist Madhavi Sigdel has urged residents in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces to remain alert due to the possibility of heavy rain. Currently, most parts of the country are experiencing cloudy weather, with light to moderate rain reported in parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.
The department’s 24-hour forecast predicts moderate rain in 30 to 50 percent of the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. At night, moderate rain is expected in 10 to 30 percent of the hilly and mountainous areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a yellow alert for hilly areas in Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, warning of potential heavy rainfall. Meteorologist Sigdel noted that the expected weather could impact the agricultural sector and advised the public to stay updated through official channels. She stated, ‘Due to the possibility of heavy rain in some hilly areas and moderate rain in other parts, agriculture may be affected, so please keep taking the latest information about the weather through the official website and social media.’
