Home Minister Sudan Gurung, US envoy Megan Bouldin discuss disaster response and flood victims

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudan Gurung and US Chargé d’Affaires Megan Bouldin discussed US-Nepal cooperation on disaster response and ongoing efforts to identify American and Nepali victims of the devastating August flood, according to the US Embassy in Nepal.

The meeting was held on Thursday, October 8, as recovery efforts continue following the disaster. The United States said more than USD 36 million in flood assistance is currently underway to support recovery efforts in affected communities.

The US Embassy said American equipment, technology and technical expertise are also being provided to support the country’s first responders as they respond to the disaster and assist affected communities.

The discussions between Gurung and Bouldin focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in disaster preparedness and response, while efforts continue to establish the identities of both US and Nepali nationals who were affected by the August flood.

The embassy said the ongoing US assistance, including financial support, equipment, technology and expertise, is helping affected communities recover from the disaster and underscored the continued cooperation between the United States and Nepal in disaster response.
