KATHMANDU: Regional Director for the Asia Pacific of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Alexander Matheou called on Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security, Sita Badi.
In the meeting held at the Ministry today, matters relating to making relief, protection, and rehabilitation for citizens affected by the recent floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and surrounding areas more effective were discussed, the ministry informed.
According to the Minister’s Secretariat, it was shared that special attention was placed for ensuring the safety, protection, and rights of women, children, and other vulnerable groups affected by the floods.
Minister Badi expressed the government’s gratitude for the humanitarian aid being provided to the affected communities by IFRC in collaboration with the Nepal Red Cross Society during this difficult time of disaster.
Minister Badi emphasized that the health, safety, psychosocial support, and safe rehabilitation of affected citizens should also be advanced with equal priority besides providing immediate relief during disasters.
Also on the occasion, positive discussions were held about making humanitarian aid more effective — from the immediate response to disasters to the rehabilitation of affected citizens — prioritizing groups in need of protection, and continuing collaboration between the government and international humanitarian partners in the future.
