HETAUDA: The Indian government has provided three bailey bridges to Nepal to facilitate transportation in flood-affected regions. Narayan Singh, a secretary at the Indian Embassy, handed over the construction materials to the Road Division Office in Makwanpur on Saturday.
The materials provided are for three 70-meter-long single-lane bridges, each with a load-carrying capacity of 20 tons. The Road Division Office in Hetauda confirmed that the bridges were dispatched to Rasuwa on Saturday. Devastating floods on the Bhote Koshi River on Aug. 27 destroyed 35 bridges across the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers, disrupting the delivery of relief and essential supplies to affected communities.
Prakash Gautam, a member of the House of Representatives from Makwanpur-1, stated that Nepal and India are in discussions regarding the provision of at least 15 bailey bridges to support recovery efforts. During the handover ceremony, Gautam thanked the neighboring nation for its support during the disaster, noting that the assistance will be crucial for restoring road connectivity and essential infrastructure.
Indian Embassy Secretary Singh reaffirmed India’s commitment to providing further assistance as needed. India has previously provided similar bridge support to Nepal to help restore road networks damaged by floods and landslides.
