TAPLEJUNG: Organic apples from Jumla have been sold in Phungling, the district headquarters of Taplejung, for the first time. Traders Hikmat Acharya and Tirtharaj Hamal brought the produce from the Sinja rural municipality of Jumla to the local market.
The shipment, which was transported by road, arrived in Taplejung after a six-day journey. Acharya stated that approximately 2,400 kilograms of apples were sold on Sunday alone. Local consumers have shown significant interest in the organic fruit, which is known for its quality and taste.
According to Hamal, the shipment consisted of Royal Delicious and Red Delicious varieties grown in the Rozikhola area. The apples were sold at a wholesale price of Rs 220 per kilogram. While the long distance between Jumla and Taplejung makes transportation expensive and challenging, the traders noted that their efforts aim to promote organic farming and support farmers in becoming self-reliant.
The high demand for the produce in Taplejung has encouraged the traders. Acharya expressed that they plan to continue supplying Jumla apples to the Taplejung market in the future whenever possible.
