KATHMANDU: Kaski police arrested 56 fugitive convicts in the month of August. The District Police Office confirmed that the group included 40 men and 16 women who had been evading their court-mandated sentences.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Kumar Paswan, the office’s information officer, stated that the apprehended individuals were handed over to the court for the execution of their prison terms and payment of fines. The operation resulted in the recovery of 11 years, three months and 27 days of prison time, along with Rs 2.29 million in fines.
The convicts were wanted for various offenses, including check dishonor, banking fraud, vehicular manslaughter, indecent behavior and financial disputes. The police have recently intensified efforts to bring fugitives to justice, following the arrest of 67 such individuals in July.
Police records indicate that 164 new criminal cases were registered in August. These include 20 cases of heinous or serious crimes, nine cases involving women, children and senior citizens, 17 economic offenses and 118 other cases. Additionally, the office reported that 115 individuals were arrested in connection with ongoing investigations during the same period.
