KATHMANDU: Australian cricket superstar David Warner is set to join the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Kathmandu Gorkhas officially announced the signing of the veteran opener on Tuesday via social media, marking the biggest player recruitment in the league’s history.

In a video message released by the franchise, Warner expressed his excitement about visiting Nepal and participating in the tournament. “This has been a very difficult time for many people. In such a situation, I hope that NPL can be a means to bring some joy and unite people in support,” Warner said. “I have heard a lot about the passion and enthusiasm of the NPL and its supporters. Now I am very excited to experience it for myself. I look forward to meeting you all. Three cities. One soul. One team. One dream. Come on, Gorkhali.”

Warner is widely regarded as one of the most successful T20 cricketers globally. His decorated career includes over 6,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and three Orange Cap titles. He famously captained Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden IPL title in 2016.

Throughout his international career, Warner has amassed 8,786 runs in 112 Tests, 6,932 runs in 161 ODIs, and 3,227 runs in 110 T20 Internationals. His highest Test score stands at an unbeaten 335. He also holds the record for the most T20 International runs scored by an Australian. While the NPL previously featured high-profile players like Shikhar Dhawan and Faf du Plessis, Warner is considered the most significant signing to date.
