KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has urged the party to halt internal divisions and seek a path of moderate and rational consensus.
In a press statement, Koirala expressed his concern over the current state of the party and emphasized the need for unity to play a leadership role in nation-building.
‘Although the middle path is difficult, it is the path of truth and the path of the Congress,’ Koirala stated. He expressed deep concern that the party’s upcoming conventions could negatively impact Nepal’s nationalism and democratic movement if divisions persist.
Koirala questioned the party’s lack of sensitivity toward the loss of life and property caused by recent natural disasters in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. He argued that the party should work with consensus and cooperation to support citizens who have lost family members and relatives during the festive season. He noted that the Congress history is built on sacrifice, struggle, and moral strength, but currently, the party appears divided and directionless.
‘One cannot celebrate a victory while others lose within the Congress,’ Koirala said, adding that such behavior is contrary to the party’s values and culture. He clarified that he does not wish to engage in accusations or counter-accusations, maintaining that the party’s success is only possible through unified efforts.
Dismissing the notion that the party’s conscience is dead, Koirala expressed confidence, stating, ‘We will rise, we will unite, and we will win.’ He called upon party members from local levels to the central committee and those abroad to commit themselves to the campaign of keeping the party united. Koirala affirmed that he would continue to engage in dialogue to foster unity within the organization.
