Lalbabu Sah wins Rs 1 million in taxpayer incentive scheme

KATHMANDU: Lalbabu Sah Kanu from Parsa has won a Rs 1 million prize under the government’s taxpayer incentive program. The Inland Revenue Department announced the winner on Friday, Oct. 2, for purchases made between Oct. 1 and Oct. 15.

The winner was announced during a program held at the Ministry of Finance, attended by Sumnima Udas, chair of the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives, along with members of parliament Ganesh Karki and Santosh Rajbanshi. According to the Inland Revenue Department, Kanu was selected for the bumper prize after he purchased lubricant oil worth Rs 21,000 and obtained a tax invoice.

Following the announcement, Director General of the Inland Revenue Department, Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal, contacted Kanu by phone to congratulate him and directed him to visit the nearest tax office to claim the prize.

Data from the department shows that 31,818,286 transactions were eligible for the incentive program during the first 15 days of October. Of these, 247,979 were cash transactions, while 31,570,307 were made through online or card payments. The department also announced winners for the daily prize of Rs 100,000 for the same period.
