Law minister and French ambassador hold meeting in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam and French Ambassador to Nepal Virginie Corteval held a courtesy meeting at Singha Durbar on Friday. During the meeting, Ambassador Corteval expressed her condolences for those who lost their lives in the recent Bhote Koshi floods.

The two sides discussed accelerating the process for a mutual legal assistance agreement between Nepal and France. As the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs serves as the central authority for such matters, both parties agreed to expedite the necessary procedures to finalize the agreement.

The discussions also covered the government’s recent legislative efforts to restructure Nepal’s aviation sector into separate service provider and regulatory bodies in line with international standards. Ambassador Corteval commended the ongoing efforts by the government to remove Nepal from the international aviation safety blacklist. Both sides committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation and maintaining coordination as required. Officials from the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present during the meeting.
