KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Lima Adhikari Acharya has demanded that the House of Representatives pass a resolution for economic revival and reconstruction to revitalize the economy following the Bhote Koshi floods.
Speaking in the House on Thursday, she urged the government to immediately launch a special program to rebuild damaged infrastructure and stimulate economic activity.
Adhikari called for a special economic relief package that includes the reconstruction of damaged projects, swift settlement of insurance claims, debt restructuring, and policy facilitation. Noting that the floods have disrupted strategic roads and northern border crossings, impacting the supply chain, she emphasized that the government must work in three shifts around the clock to clear infrastructure blockages.
Highlighting the need to boost the morale of the private sector, she said, ‘Scriptures state that a pilgrimage undertaken while keeping one’s family deity dissatisfied never yields results. The family deity of our economy is the domestic entrepreneur who takes risks in this very soil. Until our own country’s business owners are confident, the internal economy will not move, the capital market will not function, and foreign investment will not come.’
Adhikari further stressed that the reconstruction process should prioritize the maximum use of domestic resources, tools, and local products to foster economic growth and create employment opportunities.
