KATHMANDU: Lawmakers in the National Assembly raised several pressing issues during Monday’s session, including the impact of recent floods and landslides, the condition of national highways, and shortages of cooking gas.
During the zero hour of the meeting, members urged the government to prioritize rescue and relief operations for citizens affected by the ongoing disasters.
Lawmakers Krishna Prasad Adhikari and Sabitri Malla called for intensified rescue efforts in flood-hit regions. Malla specifically demanded that the government prioritize the repair of damaged major highways to ensure they remain operational.
Meanwhile, lawmaker Rukmini Koirala emphasized the need to repair damaged roads to ensure safe travel for the public during the upcoming festival season.
Addressing the issue of fuel supply, lawmaker Bishnu Bahadur Bishwokarma drew the government’s attention to the shortage of cooking gas. He also urged the government to take result-oriented initiatives regarding gas exploration and production in Jaljale, Dailekh.
The session also saw discussions regarding the detention of former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana. Lawmakers Ghanashyam Rijal and Bishnu Devi Pudasaini demanded that the government inform the parliament about the reasons behind his detention by the police.
