KATHMANDU: Members of the National Assembly have urged the government to ensure that there is no shortage of essential goods, including cooking gas, during the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals.
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, lawmaker Narayan Datta Bhatta expressed concern over the recurring issues of gas shortages and rising prices of essential commodities as festivals approach. He called on the government to resolve these problems immediately to ease the burden on the public.
Other lawmakers also raised various contemporary issues during the meeting. Lawmaker Bishnu Bahadur Bishwokarma emphasized that the Prime Minister, who is set to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, should prioritize the issue of climate justice. Meanwhile, lawmaker Samjhana Devkota highlighted the challenges caused by unplanned settlements along riverbanks, urging for a policy rethink that considers geographical conditions.
Addressing concerns regarding governance, lawmaker Basudev Ghimire stressed that the current government must implement the demands raised by the Gen-Z movement concerning corruption control and good governance. Lawmaker Gomadevi Timilsina raised concerns about reports of discrimination in the distribution of relief to the victims of the Bhote Koshi floods, calling for a fair and equitable relief process.
Additionally, lawmaker Dharmendra Paswan demanded that the government formulate a concrete policy for the education sector, while lawmaker Jagat Bahadur Parki emphasized that the public expects a tangible change in the government’s approach and overall conduct.
