KATHMANDU: The Nepal LP Gas Industry Association has directed gas bottlers to limit the retail price of cooking gas in the Kathmandu Valley to Rs 2,060 per cylinder. The association issued a statement on Thursday, requesting that the new pricing take effect from Friday, Sept. 18, 2026.
In the statement, association president Diwan Chand requested all gas industry operators to ensure that sales do not exceed the price set by the Nepal Oil Corporation and to notify their respective distributors accordingly.
The move follows a period of supply disruption that began on Aug. 30, 2026, when landslides triggered by flooding along the Trishuli River blocked the main highway at Krishnabhir. During that period, industry operators were forced to use alternative routes to transport gas from plants in areas including Makwanpur, Parsa, Bara, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, and Dhanusha. Consequently, the association had requested a temporary price adjustment on Sept. 3, 2026, allowing a retail price of Rs 2,165.38 per cylinder to account for the additional transportation costs.
With the opening of alternative tracks along the previously blocked road section, gas bullets have resumed normal transport to the Kathmandu Valley. As supply logistics have returned to normal, the association has instructed all stakeholders to revert to the standard government-regulated price.
