KATHMANDU: Cooking LPG prices have decreased in Kathmandu following the reopening of the road in the Krishnabhir area. Businessmen had previously raised prices, citing increased transportation costs after flooding forced the use of alternative routes for gas imports.
According to Shiva Prasad Ghimire, former president of the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, the price reduction follows the issuance of a Product Delivery Order (PDO) for Kathmandu by the Nepal Oil Corporation. “Previously, the price of gas had increased due to the increased freight when the main road was closed and transportation was done through an alternative route,” Ghimire said. “Now that the Krishnabhir road has opened and gas bullets have started arriving, the price has decreased again.”
Previously, transportation costs were adjusted by Rs 105.38 per cylinder due to the use of longer, alternative routes. Consumers will now pay the original price of Rs 2,060 per cylinder.
Nepal Oil Corporation spokesperson Manoj Kumar Thakur confirmed that a PDO has been issued for the Kathmandu Valley. While the country is typically divided into three regions for gas distribution, operations had been relying on the Terai region’s PDO. New PDOs have now been issued specifically for Kathmandu and Dhading to ensure supplies return to standard pricing.
