KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 9-year-old girl from a school in Janakpurdham. The suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Manish Thakur, a resident of Parsa in Mahottari Rural Municipality-1.
The arrest was made by the crime investigation team of the District Police Office, Dhanusa. According to police spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Om Prakash Khanal, the incident occurred on Sept. 3 when the girl was leaving Angel Boarding School in Ramananda Chowk.
Police identified Thakur through CCTV footage and subsequently took him into custody from his home in Mahottari. Preliminary investigations reveal that Thakur is a former teacher and had also been working at a local radio station in Mahottari. The victim, whose permanent residence is in Siraha, currently lives with her family in Janakpurdham. DSP Khanal stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing while the suspect remains in police custody.
