DHANGADHI: Police in Kailali have arrested a man on charges of raping a three-year-old girl. The suspect, an 18-year-old from Bhajani Municipality-7, was taken into custody following the allegations.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogendra Timilsina, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kailali, stated that the suspect was arrested three to four days ago. He is currently being held at the Area Police Office in Bhajani for further investigation. Timilsina noted that details cannot be disclosed at this time as the case is under investigation.
Local residents reported that the incident occurred four to five days ago, but the filing of the police complaint was delayed due to pressure to settle the matter locally. According to locals, some community leaders and political figures have been attempting to suppress the case. The victim’s mother reportedly confronted the suspect after discovering injuries on the child’s genitals and hearing the child’s account of what happened. Locals further alleged that pressure is being exerted on the mother to claim that the child’s injuries were sustained while playing.
