KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office in Manang has suspended trekking activities in high-altitude regions due to the risk of heavy rainfall and snowfall. The administration issued a notice on Thursday announcing a three-day temporary ban effective from Friday to Sunday.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted heavy to extreme rainfall across various parts of the country and snowfall in high-altitude areas from Sept. 25 to 27. Following this advisory, the District Security Committee of Manang decided to suspend trekking to prevent potential casualties.
Assistant Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Paudel stated that trekking is prohibited in areas including the world-famous Tilicho Lake, Thorong La Pass, Ice Lake, Kang La Pass, Bhimthang, and other high-altitude locations. The administration has fully restricted movement in these areas due to the high risk of weather-related disasters.
The administration has requested domestic and international tourists currently on trekking routes to seek shelter in safe locations or nearby hotels. All trekkers and tourism entrepreneurs have been advised not to proceed with their journeys until weather conditions improve and to strictly follow the instructions issued by security agencies.
