Minister Pokharel bids farewell to Nepali team for 20th Asian Games

KATHMANDU: Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, has bidden farewell to a Nepali team including athletes, coach and manager who will be participating in the 20th Asian in Japan.

At a programme organised at the Ministry on Thursday, Minister Pokharel bade farewell to the team with best wishes. He urged the players to compete with high-morale. Representing the country in international competition is the matter of pride itself, he reminded.

Minister Pokharel suggested the athletes keeping the nation’s pride and prestige in mind along with personal performance. “I extend thanks to you for your hard work irrespective of limited means and resources. Participating in the competition is for winning. However, the respect for the players from the state will not diminish whether you win or not,” he underlined.

Stating that Nepali players are talented and capable, Minister Pokharel assured that the government would provide necessary support and facilitation to achieve best result in the international level.

The 211-member team is participating in the 20th Asian Games to be organised from September 19 to October 4 in Japan. Total 135 athletes—57 female and 78 male, 29 coaches, 17 managers and sports technicians, six medical members and four journalists, among others are in the team.
