KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division has warned of a significant rise in water levels across the Koshi and Narayani river basins over the next three days.
According to a bulletin issued on Monday, there is a moderate risk of flash floods in small rivers flowing through 22 districts, including Sankhuwasabha, Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Gorkha, Tanahun, Lamjung, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Surkhet, Kalikot, Humla, Bajhang, and Bajura.
Measurements taken on Monday morning indicate that the water levels of the Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali, and their tributaries, as well as the Kankai, Kamala, Babai, and Rapti rivers, remain below the alert level.
However, water levels in the Saptakoshi, Tamor, Arun, Dudhkoshi, Tamakoshi, Sunkoshi, Narayani at Devghat, Trishuli, Budhigandaki, Marsyangdi, Seti, Kaligandaki, and Mahakali rivers are expected to rise significantly over the next three days. Water levels in the Karnali, Kankai, Kamala, Bagmati, and Rapti rivers are expected to see a moderate increase.
The division further forecasts that small rivers in Sudurpashchim, Lumbini, and Madhesh provinces may experience sudden surges in flow on Tuesday. Similar conditions are expected in small rivers across Koshi and Madhesh provinces on Wednesday.
