KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Yashoda Kumari Baral has questioned the government regarding the impact of two-day public holidays on the health, education, and office sectors. Speaking during Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, she highlighted the difficulties caused by the holiday management policy, particularly for female employees.
Baral stated, “Does the government know how much hardship is caused by the holidays declared in a haphazard manner? It is time for the government to think seriously about this issue.” She pointed out that the current policy creates significant challenges for women who are managing both household responsibilities and professional duties.
Emphasizing the struggles of female staff, she asked, “How much hardship do women have to endure to manage their children in school or elsewhere before reaching the office on time? Has the government ever considered the impact on the daily lives and work efficiency of female employees when making such decisions?”
The lawmaker further noted that the two-day holiday structure has led to delays in public service delivery, causing inconvenience to the general public. She demanded that the government reconsider its holiday policy and ensure that the problems faced by employees and women are taken into account when making future decisions.
