KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Khagendra Sunar has demanded the immediate dismissal of Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki. Speaking during a session of the House of Representatives, Sunar called for the removal of the police chief, citing serious corruption allegations against him.
Sunar stated that allegations of multi-million rupee corruption have been leveled against IGP Karki, his wife, and other high-ranking officials. He noted that formal complaints regarding these financial irregularities have been submitted to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority and the Public Accounts Committee. He said, ‘This accusation has been made against the current Inspector General of Nepal Police, Dan Bahadur Karki, his wife and other high-ranking officials, who are accused of corruption worth crores of rupees. Complaints of corruption worth crores of rupees are piling up from the Authority to the Public Accounts Committees.’
The lawmaker further alleged that the IGP had misappropriated funds meant for the footwear and socks of lower-ranking police personnel. Questioning the government’s inaction, Sunar pointed out that three ministers had previously been dismissed based on lesser allegations. He questioned why Karki continues to be shielded from an official investigation.
He added, ‘Why is he not being investigated? Why is he being protected? I want to draw the government’s attention. Anytime a father is accused of stealing a daughter, the police are serious. We should be aware of this.’
