CHITWAN: The water level in the Narayani River in Chitwan district alarmingly rose to 11.94 metres today, the highest level ever recorded at the Devghat hydrological station.
The Narayani Basin Field Office in Bharatpur said that the water level was the highest recorded since measurements began at the station in 1963.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the River swelled to 11.94 metres at 2:10 pm.
It may be noted that the warning level at the station is 7.30 metres, while 9 metres is considered the danger level.
The water level, however, fell to 11.75 metres by 3:40 pm, according to the latest measurement. Although the raging River is receding, it remains well above the danger level.
Sumit Adhikari, Chief Hydrologist at the Narayani Basin Field Office, shared that today’s reading was the highest recorded since hydrological measurements began in the Narayani River, one of the major waterways of Nepal.
Adhikari cautioned that the water level could fluctuate further as rainfall continues in the hills.
According to records maintained by the Field Office, the previous highest water level in the Narayani River was 11.6 metres, recorded on September 28, 2024.
