KATHMANDU: National Child Rights Day is being observed today under the theme ‘Protection of childhood: security of the future’.
This day is celebrated annually on the 29th of Bhadra (Nepali Calendar) with the objective of enhancing the accountability and responsibility of civil society and all stakeholders in promoting child rights within a child-friendly environment.
The stakeholders have opined that there is an urgent need to rescue, support, and safeguard children who have lost their parents, guardians, and property as a result of the catastrophic Bhotekoshi floods that occurred on August 26.
Ram Bahadur Chand, the information officer of the National Child Rights Council, stated that the government is committed to offering services such as temporary protection and psychosocial counselling to these affected children.
On this occasion, various organizations, including the council, have arranged programmes.
