KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has begun distributing relief to the families of employees who went missing in the August 26 Bhote Koshi flood, providing Rs 500,000 each to the families of six employees so far.

The information was made public Tuesday by the secretariat of Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

A total of 47 NEA employees went missing following the flood. The NEA Board of Directors had decided to provide Rs 500,000 to the dependent family of each missing employee, along with half of the basic starting salary for the employee’s respective post for six months.

According to the NEA, the legal heirs of the six employees who submitted applications with the required evidence have received the relief. Other eligible family members have been asked to submit applications along with the necessary documents.

Applicants must provide proof of their relationship with the missing employee, their citizenship certificate and, in the case of minors, a birth registration certificate. They must also submit a recommendation letter from the local government verifying them as the nearest legal heir, their bank account number and an application requesting the relief.

The NEA said further assistance would be provided in accordance with its bylaws and the relief package to be announced by the government.
