PITHORAGARH: Officials from Nepal and India have agreed to resolve border issues and enhance security through mutual dialogue, coordination, and established mechanisms following a border coordination committee meeting held in Pithoragarh, India.
The meeting focused on maintaining peace, security, and harmony along the border. According to Baitadi Chief District Officer Meena Aryal, the discussions covered border security, crime control, disaster management, trade facilitation, and infrastructure maintenance and construction.
Both sides agreed on regular information sharing between their security agencies to curb illegal activities, smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other cross-border crimes. Discussions were also held on making border movement smooth and efficient for citizens of both countries.
Addressing disaster risks, Aryal noted that both sides face threats from floods, landslides, and flash floods. Officials discussed establishing a joint mechanism for information exchange to manage disasters effectively. Both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties at the people-to-people level and continuing regular coordination meetings.
The Nepali delegation was led by CDO Aryal and included officials and security representatives from Baitadi and Darchula districts. The Indian side was represented by officials and security personnel from Pithoragarh district.
