KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration has cancelled the visas of 88 Chinese nationals for violating the terms of their business visas. The department has initiated the process to deport the individuals after imposing fines for engaging in activities outside the scope of their permits.
Department Director Tikaram Dhakal stated that the individuals were working at Jian Foods Pvt. Ltd., a project under construction in Marin Rural Municipality-4, Sahan, Sindhuli, in partnership with Chengdu Tian Foot Limited. Authorities found that the workers had obtained business visas under different company names but were involved in labor and employment activities unrelated to the purpose of their visas.
The action follows the Immigration Act, 2049, which mandates that foreign nationals must adhere to the specific objectives and conditions under which their visas were issued. According to the Immigration Regulations, 2051, a business visa does not permit the holder to engage in general labor or employment unrelated to their investment or business purpose.
The department has issued a warning to foreign nationals to strictly comply with their visa conditions. Furthermore, the immigration authorities have cautioned local industries and employers against hiring foreign nationals without appropriate visas and official authorization. The department warned that any involvement in activities contrary to immigration laws and other prevailing regulations will result in legal action.
