Nepal defeats Canada by 24 runs

KATHMANDU: Nepal has defeated Canada by 24 runs in the tri-series under ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League-2 taking place in Oman. This is the 12th victory of Nepal in ongoing League-2.

With this victory, Nepal’s chances of holding its One-Day International status have increased.

In today’s match, chasing the 236-run victory target posted by Nepal, Canada was able to score only 211 in 48.4 overs at the loss of all wickets.
Canada’s Aaron Johnson gathered 44 runs, Samit Gohel made 35 runs, Akhil Kumar collected 30 runs (not out) and Shreyas Movva and Hamza Tariq made 26 runs each.

For the bowling side, Lalit Rajbanshi, Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC and Nandan Yadav took two wickets each.

Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss at Al Amarat Cricket Ground at Muscat, Nepal made 235 runs losing all wickets at the allotted 50 overs. Nepal’s captain Rohit Kumar Poudel made 101 runs in 107 balls.

Similarly, Gulshan Jha scored 48 runs, Basir Ahamad made 30 runs and Arjun Kumal gathered 23 runs.
Akhil Kumar of Canada took the highest four wickets.

With this victory, Nepal has climbed to sixth position in the points table. Out of 33 matches so far, Nepal has won 12 matches and was defeated in 19 matches.
