KATHMANDU: The farmer registration campaign in Nepal has gained momentum following an initiative led by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment Gita Chaudhary.
According to the ministry, an additional 300,000 farmers have been enrolled in the registration system, bringing the total number of registered farmers across the country to 2.679 million.
The ministry stated that the registration process is being prioritized to ensure the identification of actual farmers and to base agricultural programs on accurate data. Minister Chaudhary has consistently urged for the mandatory implementation of this system.
The ministry has issued directives to all its subordinate offices, agencies, and projects, requiring the mandatory use of the farmer registration number when implementing agricultural programs. This measure is intended to ensure transparency and good governance in the distribution of state services and benefits.
The government aims to ensure that actual farmers have access to agricultural subsidies, fertilizer distribution, and other state-provided facilities through this system. The ministry stated it plans to further enhance the effectiveness of the registration system by linking it directly to future agricultural services and support programs.
