KATHMANDU: Nepal recorded an increase in both imports and exports during the first two months of the current fiscal year. According to data released by the Department of Customs, the country imported goods worth Rs 401.51 billion by the end of mid-September. This marks a 31.58 percent increase compared to the same period last year, when imports stood at Rs 305.15 billion.
Export performance also showed significant growth during the review period. The department reported that exports rose by 61.86 percent to reach Rs 76.58 billion. In the corresponding period of the previous year, the country had exported goods worth Rs 47.31 billion.
Despite the growth in exports, the trade deficit continued to widen due to the high volume of imports. Nepal recorded a trade deficit of Rs 324.93 billion during the first two months of the fiscal year, which is a 26.02 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The current import-export ratio stands at 5.24 percent, with imports accounting for 83.98 percent of the total trade volume.
