KATHMANDU: Nepal has imported nearly 345,000 cylinders of LPG from India over the past two days, according to the Nepal Oil Corporation. A total of 345,085 cylinders were brought into the country between Thursday and Friday.
Official data from the corporation shows that 4,900.2 metric tonnes of gas were imported during this period. On Thursday, Sept. 10, the country received 3,077.9 metric tonnes, equivalent to 216,753 cylinders. On Friday, Sept. 11, another 1,822.3 metric tonnes, or 128,332 cylinders, were imported.
The Birgunj border point recorded the highest volume of imports, with 2,926.11 metric tonnes of gas entering through the crossing over the two days. Other imports included 702.59 metric tonnes through Bhairahawa, 651.63 metric tonnes through Biratnagar, 530.83 metric tonnes through Nepalgunj, and 89.04 metric tonnes through the Mechi border point.
The Nepal Oil Corporation stated that this influx of gas is expected to help stabilize supply in the market. Despite these imports, consumers continue to report difficulties in purchasing cooking gas. Many have complained that they are struggling to obtain even the necessary coupons required to purchase a cylinder, let alone the fuel itself.
