KATHMANDU: Nepal has made a winning start in women’s kabaddi at the 20th Asian Games currently being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Nepal defeated Thailand 46-43 in their opening Group B match held at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium today.
Nepal struggled during the first half of the match, trailing 15-24 by the break. However, the team staged a strong comeback in the second half, scoring 31 points while limiting Thailand to just 19 points to secure the win.
Women’s team coach Parbati Rai stated that the team is encouraged by today’s performance. Nepal is scheduled to play its second group stage match against Chinese Taipei on Wednesday. Group B also includes Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei, with the top two teams from the group advancing to the semifinals.
Nepal previously won a bronze medal in women’s kabaddi at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023.
