KATHMANDU: The Nepal stock market responded positively on Tuesday following the government’s announcement of a new capital market reform plan. The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index climbed by 48.57 points to close at 2,633.62 points.
Trading volume also saw a significant increase, with shares worth Rs 8.29 billion changing hands. A total of 20.38 million shares were traded throughout the session. Market performance was broad-based, with all 13 sub-indices finishing in the green.
Of the companies traded today, 265 saw their share prices rise, while only 12 companies recorded a decline. The market rally follows the government’s release of a 21-point securities market reform plan on Monday. The new measures include reducing the capital gains tax to 3.5 percent and allowing investors to calculate tax based on net profit or loss.
